About Chue's Unique...

Hello! My name is Chue Thao! I am a Hmong textile artist. I sew purses, handbags, and coin purses. the textiles I use has traditional Hmong patterns.
These patterns are geometric and hold a meaning to each of them. They can tell stories, or they can be used for artistic purposes for modern use. Flower Cloths are unique with its reverse applique technique. I have done many and finished a few pieces myself. The art takes patience and precise stitching to
My purpose of pursuing this art is to pass it on to my children. Hmong embroidery has been a survival skill I've gained. My family and I are from Laos, we lived in Nam Yao, refugee camp in Thailand and sold embroidery to survive in 1975 to 1980.
Now in the United States, I want to keep this skill alive within my family and potentially to others. I have taught children how to do Hmong art during the Living Tradition Festival held in Utah. It truly is a blessing to have that experience!
